About The New Facebook Algorithm....
A few weeks ago Facebook announced it was changing its newsfeed algorithm, pushing down business and "salesy" posts across newsfeeds so users will see more personal posts from their friends. Facebook stated the change was a result of hearing from users who are tired of seeing their newsfeeds cluttered with "ads" and they are working hard to make staying connected more meaningful for users.
Since the announcement, I've seen many posts, mostly from others in direct sales, warning "you'll only see your top 25 or 26 "friends" posts in your newsfeeds". They also advise that you need both "likes" and comments to push your posts higher in the newsfeeds of others. It's been proven that this is not true at all. In my opinion, this is a tactic used to get others to help push their posts higher in newsfeeds. It's no secret that posts with both likes and comments are ranked higher than one with no engagement.
Back to the new algorithm...personally, I like the change. While I'm seeing less of the same updates, I'm seeing more updates from friends I rarely saw in my newsfeed prior to the change. I used to have to go look for these friends and now I don't have to. It's refreshing to see the many different and original updates that aren't copied and pasted several times over. If you are in direct sales, with the new algorithm you're vulnerable to be put in "jail" if your updates consistently contain product names or photos. Please be aware, and be careful.
Regardless of what changes Facebook implements, you do control what you see in your newsfeed. You'll always see updates from the friends you've marked "see first", and to keep your newsfeed free of clutter you can hide or snooze updates and ads. Want to see updates from others you may not know personally? Follow them. Have you marked your favorite business pages and groups so you see their updates first? These are just a few ways you can ensure you're seeing the status updates that are important to you.
For the past 11 years Facebook has allowed me to build meaningful personal relationships, and for the past 3 years expand and build my businesses. It allows me to stay in touch with family, friends, and colleagues while utilizing business pages and groups to build and expand my businesses. The new algorithm has had a positive impact on my newsfeed by bringing new updates into view. There's nothing negative about it.
So...what are your thoughts about that new algorithm?
